NHL Player Safety hints at huge suspension for Matt Rempe.
It looks like New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is headed for a huge suspension.
The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has indicated that New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is on track for a massive suspension following a dirty hit he delivered on Friday night.
According to an official announcement from the disciplinary arm of the league, Rempe has been offered an in person hearing following his ejection from Friday night's game between the Rangers and Dallas Stars. During the third period of that game, Rempe delivered an ugly looking hit to the back of Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen which would result in a 5 minute major. The hit saw Rempe drive Heiskanen into the boards from behind while Rempe was leading with his elbow, an elbow that also appeared to catch Heiskanen up high.
Here is a look at the replay of the hit:
It is unclear when Rempe will face judgement from the NHL's Department of Player Safety as both the time and date of his potential in person hearing have yet to be established.
Rempe was previously suspended 4 games for elbowing Jonas Siegenthaler and it seems as though the league will be looking to impose a harsher punishment this time around given that Rempe appears not to have learned his lesson from his previous mistakes and subsequent punishment.
The league will likely also not look favorably on the fact that Rempe has been ejected 4 times during his NHL career in spite of the fact that he has only appeared in a grand total of just 22 NHL games spread across his two seasons in the league.
An in person hearing is only offered by NHL Player Safety in cases where they feel a player is likely to be suspended for six games or more, so this would suggest that Rempe is headed for a truly massive suspension this time around.
Stay tuned for more details.
