NHL insider reveals what the league really thinks of Elias Pettersson.
Elias Pettersson buried like never before after a terrible season in Vancouver.
Fans of the Vancouver Canucks were frustrated by the play of Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson this season and they weren't the only ones. The issues with Pettersson surrounding Pettersson's play had a clear impact on the Canucks locker room during the regular season with things eventually coming to a head when star forward J.T. Miller was sent packing due to personal conflicts between himself and Pettersson.
It seems however that the damage to Pettersson's reputation has gone far beyond the Canucks locker room and fan base however, with a report now indicating that Pettersson's reputation has been severely damaged in the eyes of most around the National Hockey League.
Pittsburgh Penguins insider Josh Yohe recently penned an article for The Athletic in which he fielded questions from fans about potential offseason moves for the Penguins. One of those questions revolved around the availability of Elias Pettersson, but Yohe's response to the question may have been the single worst burial of Elias Pettersson's reputation that I've seen in writing.
Yohe stated flatly that the Canucks star forward is not viewed well by others in the NHL. From The Athletic:
Why would anyone want to trade for Pettersson? It looks like a disaster of a contract, and he’s not very well respected around the league.
This is of course a major problem for the Canucks who ostensibly made a choice this season to move on from J.T. Miller while keeping Pettersson in the fold, especially when you consider the fact that Pettersson is about to have a full no movement clause kick into his contract as soon as this season comes to an end and the 2025-26 season gets underway.
The obvious solution here would be to pull off some kind of trade, but as Yohe points out "Why would anyone want to trade for Pettersson" given everything that has transpired? This is an ugly situation for the Canucks and it may soon get even worse.
