NHL Insider predicts the future of Max Domi with Leafs

Among the multiple moves that 1st year Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving made was bringing aboard Max Domi, the son of former beloved Leafs enforcer Tie Domi, with a one-year contract worth $3 million. 

And so far in the 78 games that he's played in his first year with the Leafs, he's tallied nine goals with 36 assists. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free-agent during the summer, and according to NHL Insider James Mirtle, he'll have to likely take less money to remain with the Leafs. 

"For a guy that's bounced around a lot, I'm almost certain what he's looking for is term," said Mirtle. "I don't think it's out of the question (staying in Toronto), I just think he's going to have to take less money to stay here. If I'm him, you're probably looking at four-by-four or something like that. I could see a world where something comes together, but it would have to be driven by him really wanting to be here and not just going for the most term and dollars he can get."

In the 659 career games that he's played in his NHL career, Domi has tallied a total of 130 goals and 285 assists that include stops with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, and Dallas Stars. 

Will Treliving be best served with attempting to re-sign him over the summer, or would his salary dollars be better served addressing other team needs?
