According to a report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, free agent defenseman Anthony DeAngelo is set to sign a one year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes worth just $1.6 million.

Check it out:

DeAngelo, of course, was reportedly traded to the Hurricanes earlier this offseason before the NHL vetoed the deal due to salary cap circumvention rules. DeAngelo played the 2021-22 season with the Hurricanes before being acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers last offseason. When the Flyers tried to trade DeAngelo BACK to the Hurricanes this offseason, the NHL denied the trade stating that a team cannot re-acquire a player within 12 months of trading them away, if that player is an unsigned RFA. Since that was the situation last offseason, the Hurricanes weren't able to re-aquire him via trade.

Flash forward a few weeks and the Flyers simply bought DeAngelo out of his contract, making him a free agent. It's been pretty quiet surrounding DeAngelo since, but it was always kind of an open secret that he'd sign on with the Hurricanes again.

Regardless of your thoughts on the divisive DeAngelo, he adds some serious firepower to an already stacked Hurricanes defensive corps. DeAngelo joins the likes of Dmirty Orlov, Jacob Slavin, Brent Burns, Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei on a STACKED blue line. You have to wonder what his acquisition means for younger players like Jalen Chatfield and Dylan Coghlan now.
