NHL busy handing out fines on Wednesday

The NHL’s Player Safety department has been busy since Tuesday’s night. It reviewed several plays and three of them needed to be tended to as earlier the NHL announced that Washington Capitals’ Dmitry Orlov will have a hearing today for Kneeing Winnipeg Jets’ Nikolaj Ehlers. While we await news on that front, the NHL was also busy handing out fines as two players - one still a Montreal Canadien, the other a former Habs’ player - were fined for their actions.

Canadiens’ Jonathan Drouin has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking Dallas Stars’ Tyler Seguin.

This took place during the third period of a heated contest between the two teams. Drouin cross checked Seguin in the head knocking his helmet off during a scrum and was assessed a major penalty upon a review from the referees.
Some say he was only getting back at Seguin, but he’s the only one paying the price.

Los Angeles Kings’ Phillip Danault has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for a dangerous trip on Tampa Bay Lightning’s Brayden Point, which happened last night as well.

After dangerously being tripped by Danault, Point got up and went after the Kings’ forward for payback. The Lightning star was not happy about his dangerous trip and so was the Player Safety department.

As for the pending suspension for Caps’ Orlov, we will have to later for an announcement later on today.
