NHL announces the Heritage Classic will return to Canada.
The NHL adds a big date to the calendar.
The National Hockey League has just added a major date to the calendar this year, although we will unfortunately have to wait until the next NHL season to see it come to pass.
On Saturday night during a segment on Hockey Night in Canada, HNIC host Ron MacLean announced that the 2023 NHL Heritage Classic would once again be held in Canada. Specifically, MacLean revealed that the Heritage Classic would be returning to the city of Edmonton for the second time in its history for a game between the hometown Edmonton Oilers and their most bitter rivals the Calgary Flames.
The rivalry between the two teams has come to be known as The Battle of Alberta and it has been one of the fiercest rivalries in the sport in recent years. To see that rivalry take center stage in an outdoor game will not only be great for the fans of both those franchises, but it is also likely to produce fireworks and will likely be a great showcase for the sport as a whole.
The news from MacLean has since been echoed by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman who has also confirmed that the game will be held on October 29th of 2023, which is to say during the 2023-2024 NHL regular season.
