The Toronto Maple Leafs officially have their new general manager, as they introduced Brad Treliving to the media earlier this morning.
Treliving joins the Leafs after having served as the general manager of the Calgary Flames from 2014 until the conclusion of this season and replaces Kyle Dubas, who was terminated by the team in early May after the team lost their Round 2 Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Florida Panthers.
And one particular question the minds of everyone present was what he was planning on doing with the team's "Core 4" of forwards in John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander that former GM Kyle Dubas assembled.
Based on the comments that Treliving made, it doesn't sound as though they're going to be going anywhere - or at least, no major changes will be made just yet.
"I'm not about coming in to make a statement...just being different doesn't make you better," Treliving said.
Leafs players like Matthews and Nylander are set to enter the final years of their contracts in the fall.
"We're not going to get into any public discourse about players' contracts," Treliving said. "We're talking about one of the elite players in the world...getting to Auston is a priority...we're prepared to get after it."
