The Toronto Maple Leafs played their first pre-season game last night, and despite the game being an exhibition match, there were some positives coming out of the game for the Leafs. Nazim Kadri, a player Leafs fans have been hoping will develop into a number one center for the club lead the Leafs to a 3-2 shootout victory over a Flyers squad with very few of their top tier players on the ice. Kadri had a goal and an assist in regulation time which allowed the Leafs to go to the shootout and eventually grab the win away from the Flyers. Kadri who has not been a favorite of head coach Randy Carlyle said all the right things to the assembled media after the game as well "“Production will be hugely important for me this year. I’m an offensive player. My goal is also to become a player who is the whole package. I think I was better on the draws today and working coming back in my own end.”" A comment that the defensive focused Carlyle and new assistant coach/defensive specialist Peter Horachek are sure to love. This is by far the most important season of 23 year old Kadri's career, with the Leafs looking for a true #1 center this could be a massive opportunity for the both Kadri as well as the Leafs.
