Corey Perry’s contract was terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks earlier on Wednesday after he cleared waivers earlier on Wednesday. The veteran forward’s deal was terminated by the club for “engaging in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”

Just moments ago, insider Frank Seravalli shared an article on the questions that remain unanswered in the saga, but revealed what might have led to Perry’s termination, possibly in Nashville on Nov. 17 :

“According to sources, an alcohol-fueled incident involving Perry was alleged to have occurred during an event that included sponsors and team employees in attendance. It remains unclear what allegedly took place, who witnessed it, and who reported it to the team.

"Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson said that the front office learned of the allegation while in Columbus last week and “immediately pulled” Perry from the lineup prior to a Thanksgiving eve game against the Blue Jackets. Davidson declined to provide any detail about the allegation or subsequent investigation before resulting in the termination that was scheduled to be completed on Wednesday.”

General manager Kyle Davidson also put an end to the crazy rumours involving Connor Bedard’s mother Melanie Bedard, stating that that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary. Davidson added that anyone who suggests otherwise is “wildly inaccurate” and “frankly, disgusting.”

The report from Seravalli echoes with what was first reported by ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, who said that Perry indeed traveled with the team to Columbus last Tuesday and an incident occurred that day involving a team employee.

We can understand why little has come out from the employee. If the employee in question is still with the organization, the identity and confidentiality need to be protected. And that’s something the Hawks need to be extremely careful with. The Blackhawks want to ensure they have learned from the terrible mistakes in 2010 with Kyle Beach and in 2021 when the Jenner & Block report came out.
