Patrick Kane is already looking like his former self amidst his recovery from hip resurfacing surgery he underwent in June. Videos have emerged following his progress and there is a feeling that we could see the free agent earlier than expected. The question remains where will he sign?
Hockey analyst Pierre McGuire recently suggested the Detroit Red Wings as a destination, while the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes were already in the mix.
Another Eastern conference contender has allegedly been added to the lost if contenders to enter the Kane sweepstakes as Boston Hockey Now’s Jimmy Murphy wonders if the Bruins could become an option as well despite undergoing a retooling in Boston. That’s exactly why McGuire does not see the Bruins as competition for clubs like Detroit, Buffalo or Carolina.
“Hard to think that he would come to Boston. They are a team that is going into a mini rebuild,” McGuire wrote back in a text.
The Maple Leafs were one of the first teams mentioned as a potential fit for Kane, though they just seem to lack the cap space to take him on.
Kane is looking to join a Stanley Cup contender in order to get another shot at the championship before retirement. I strongly believe the Hurricanes fit the bill. But could the Maple Leafs come out so strong that Kane dictates his agent Pat Brisson to make it work in Toronto?
This will be fun to watch, knowing that Kane will follow the action at the start of the 2023-24 season to determine where he will end up.
