Moose Jaw Police comment on the suspension of 4 players, including Oilers prospect Maximus Wanner.
This situation continues to get more bizarre.
Over the weekend the Western Hockey League stunned many of their fans when they announced that 4 players from the Moose Jaw Warriors had been suspended indefinitely. No clear reason for those suspensions was given in the league's statement, with the league instead issuing a vague statement about rule violations.
"The Western Hockey League announced today that four Moose Jaw Warriors players – Connor Ungar, Max Wanner, Lynden Lakovic, and Marek Howell – have been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation into possible violations of team rules and the WHL Standard of Conduct policies," wrote the league in a statement on Saturday.
Many Oilers fans took note of the suspension due to the fact that among the four players suspended is Oilers 7th round pick (212th overall) at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, defenseman Maximus Wanner. Indefinite suspensions tend to be reserved for serious matters and this could seriously damage Wanner's chances of ever making the NHL depending on the severity of the infraction.
Although the details surrounding this story are still hazy, it appears as though the Moose Jaw Police may now be involved in this matter. The Athletic's Katie Strang was able to confirm through a Moose Jaw Police spokesperson that they "have been made aware" of a situation involving the players.
The decision from Moose Jaw Police not to comment further on this matter could point to the fact that there may be a law enforcement investigation currently underway.
