Monster move in the works in Boston!
The Bruins need to get back on track and rumours hint at a significant change. Get the details down below:
If there’s one NHL team that hasn’t had the anticipated start to the 2024-25 season, it’s certainly the Boston Bruins. Currently sitting in 14th place in league standings with a record of 8-7-2, there’s a growing sense of impatience and perhaps a bit of panic around the team, especially after their recent 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators, during which the Bruins failed to record a single shot on goal throughout the entire third period.
Fortunately for Boston, they got the 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues last night, though generating offense remains an issue.
Reporter Jimmy Murphy from the site Responsible Gambler recently reported how something big is brewing in Boston, and an announcement could be made soon.
Murphy heard the chatter during the Hall of Fame ceremony this past weekend and believes the announcement could be linked to a coaching change, meaning bench boss Jim Montgomery might be on the hot seat. The reporter also hints at a major trade that could take place in order to get a boost up front and even suggests the Bruins go after Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras, whose start to the season has been disappointing so far.
Transactions are however rare at this stage of the season (though the Pittsburgh Penguins made a move last night, trading forward Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals), which could mean Montgomery’s time is ticking in Boston. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently spoke about the uncertain future of some head coaches around the NHL and pointed out how Joel Quenneville and Todd McLellan are two of the most talked-about names right now. He however added that if the Bruins were to part with Montgomery, he would quickly become a candidate elsewhere.
Montgomery is currently in the last year of his contract and his name will be mentioned in rumours unless the Bruins can get back on track quick.
