Monster move brewing in Pittsburgh as last night’s loss was ‘straw snap for Dubas’!
According to team insider, a pending move is coming. Full details below:
On Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins blew a third period losing and went on to lose 4-2 to the Seattle Kraken. This was the Pens’ third consecutive loss, and according to team insider Dan Kingerski, a ‘straw snap’ for general manager Kyle Dubas.
After the game, Kingerski posted: “Gut feeling, you’re going to see real Penguins changes as soon as possible.
“Some things may not be possible yet (trades), but I think tonight was a straw snap for Dubas.”
The Penguins lost three of their five-game home-stand against three teams below the playoff line, which might have been enough to convince GM Dubas to be a full on seller ahead of the deadline. After all, the start to 2025 has definitely derailed the Penguins from any momentum they had going in December.
This is supported by Josh Yohe of the Athletic who reported earlier this week:
“Kyle Dubas isn’t going to go on a shopping spree at the trade deadline to try to help these Penguins qualify for the postseason. It’s just the way it is. Dubas’ eyes are on the future. He’s been acquiring draft picks, prospects and young NHL players for the better part of the past year. That’s the mindset and it’s not changing.”
He adds: “League sources expect the Penguins to make multiple deals. Marcus Pettersson is as good as gone, but don’t be shocked if other veterans are included. A league source said “no one is safe” on the Penguins, except players with full no-trade clauses, such as Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.”
The Penguins now head out to Buffalo to face the Sabres on Thursday with a long, long road ahead of them (an upcoming 15-day road trip that has seven different stops) especially if Dubas sells almost everyone at the deadline to rebuild from almost the very start.
