Big news out of Carolina. The Hurricanes have signed Sebastian Aho to an eight-year contract extension with an AAV of $9.75 million.
Aho is on the final season of a five-year, $42.295 million offer sheet that he signed with the Montreal Canadiens back in July of 2019 and was matched by the Hurricanes. It carries a $8.46MM AAV.
The new deal comes on Aho's 26th birthday. What a gift.
The star forward has spent his entire seven-season career with the Hurricanes. He put up 36 goals and 67 points in 75 games last season and added five goals and 12 points in 15 playoff games before the Hurricanes were swept by the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final.
He was selected 35th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft and has 218 goals and 468 points in 520 career games in Carolina.
Aho is a franchise player and the Canes have made sure he remains in Carolina for the long run.
