This would be a strange look for him.

One of the most intriguing story lines is the future of forward William Nylander with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He's entering the final year of his current contract, and based on all reports, isn't willing to take a discount in order to accommodate Toronto's already very tight salary cap situation.

New Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving, who took over from the terminated Kyle Dubas earlier in the summer, could be faced with a situation in which he's forced to trade Nylander rather than risk losing him for nothing on the open market next summer.

One particular former NHL player and current analyst in Mike Rupp believes there is one perfect destination for Nylander that would benefit both sides, and it would see Nylander take his talents out west and join the Anaheim Ducks via trade that would land Toronto a high draft choice.

“The Maple Leafs haven’t had a high draft pick in a few years. The Ducks should take the opportunity to make an offer,” Rupp said Monday night.

“Nylander is one of the most underrated players in the league. He would fit perfectly in the alignment of the Ducks,” continued Rupp, while also mentioning in passing that the likes of young players on the Ducks like Trevor Zegras, Leo Carlsson, and Troy Terry would benefit from the experience of Nylander.

Where will Nylander be playing in 2024?
