Mike Babcock helps the Bruins beat the Maple Leafs in Game 7.

On Saturday night, the Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in what was a nail biting conclusion to a nail biter of a series, one that would need all 7 games and overtime to eventually determine a winner. It was a gutsy win by a Boston Bruins team that has lost several key members over the course of the summer, including locker room leader and captain Patrice Bergeron, but it was a win that came with a little extra help from the outside.

Following his team's huge win in Game 7, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery would reveal that he had received advice from an unexpected source heading into Game 7, a source with intimate knowledge of the Maple Leafs' most important players. That man was none other than former Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, a man who was unceremoniously fired by the Maple Leafs after clashing with, what was at the time, the team's young core.

What advice Babcock could have given Montgomery about the specific players on the Maple Leafs roster this many years after his tenure in Toronto is anyone's guess, but there is no question about the fact that Montgomery felt Babcock's advice had been valuable enough that it warranted acknowledging after his win over Babcock's former team.

Montgomery also took the time to give a nod to Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Cooper following the win, stating that Cooper had offered him words of encouragement following the Lightning's first round playoff exit at the hands of the Florida Panthers.
