Meredith Gaudreau announces her pregnancy at Johnny Gaudreau's funeral

The wife of National Hockey League star Johnny Gaudreau has just made a truly stunning announcement at her husband's funeral.

While speaking at the funeral, Meredith Gaudreau announced to all of those in attendance as well as all of those watching through the Calgary Flames' official website and Columbus Blue Jackets official website that she is currently 9 weeks pregnant with the couples' third child.

Although the thought of another piece of Johnny remaining in this world is a beautiful one, my heart breaks for Meredith who will now have to face the challenge of raising not 2 but 3 young children without her husband in the picture. My heart of course also breaks for the unborn child that will never get the chance to touch or see their father, as well as for the father that will never get to see his baby.

Johnny was of course killed on August 29th of this year when both he and his brother were struck by alleged drunk driver Sean Higgins, taking the lives of two beautiful young men, sons, brothers, husbands and fathers far too soon.

Johnny and Matthew were cycling, returning from this sister Katie's wedding rehearsal, when they were struck from behind by Higgins who was attempting to pass vehicles on the single lane roadway. Higgins remained at the scene of the incident and was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving after telling law enforcement officials that he had consumed "five or six" beers.

Since the incident Higgins has made two appearances' in court. During his first appearance he appeared to show no remorse for the lives he had taken and instead appeared more concerned with the fact that he would be inconvenienced by having to spend Labor Day weekend in custody. Higgins again appeared in court this past Thursday to face charges of vehicular homicide, and at that time his detention in the Salem County Jail was extended until at least Friday, September the 13th.

Higgins did not speak during his second appearance in court.

Higgins has not been offered bail.

On Monday, a beautiful funeral service was held at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Media, Pennsylvania, and it was there that Meredith revealed she was 9 weeks pregnant with the couples third child.

Once again my most sincere condolences go out to the entire Gaudreau family, all of Johnny's current and former teammates, and all of Johnny and Matthew's friends and loved ones.
