McDavid, Hyman blast the Oilers after ugly loss on Friday night.
The two veterans are not happy.
For the first 20 minutes it looked liked the Edmonton Oilers would be sending their fans home happy with a win before Christmas, but after the game's first period on Friday night things changed drastically. The Oilers collapsed in the final two periods of play, allowing the Canucks to rattle off 5 unanswered goals at Rogers Place leaving the fans in attendance anything but happy.
The loss dropped the Oilers to 18-15-2 on the season and sent them into the Christmas break with a lot to digest as they once again find themselves outside of the playoff picture at this point in the season. Unsurprisingly that has made some of the veteran players on the roster very unhappy with their current situation, including veteran forward Zach Hyman.
Following the game a noticeably unhappy Hyman called out his team for what he considered an unacceptable performance.
"Unacceptable," said Hyman when asked what he thought of the team's effort. "We had a good start up 2-0, we were the fresher team, and they were able to score 5 unanswered. You can't win like that."
"Clearly we weren't good enough... can't happen," said a frustrated Hyman.
Oilers star forward Connor McDavid was also clearly unhappy following the tough loss at the hands of the Canucks and shared similar sentiments to that of his teammate.
"I would agree," said McDavid of the Oilers not playing well at home. "We haven't been playing good enough at home and haven't been finding ways to get wins."
McDavid, who scored one of the early goals for the Oilers in the first period, was noticeably upset about how the team had squandered their early advantage.
"We had a good start, the start we wanted, and we cough it up," said McDavid. "You gotta find a way to win that game, there's just no way around it."
Unfortunately for the Oilers they will have to stew over this one over the holidays, they won't play again until Tuesday when they will renew the Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames.
