Max Domi and Kaiden Guhle drop the gloves on Saturday.
Kaiden Guhle crushes John Tavares and drops the gloves with Max Domi on Hockey Night in Canada!
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle looked like a man on a mission on Saturday night, and that mission was to send a message to the Toronto Maple Leafs with the use of his body.
Guhle delivered a number of big hits early on in this one, but it would be a hit to Maple Leafs forward John Tavares in the second period that would result in Guhle's message being received loud and clear by the Maple Leafs. Tavares was trying to cross over the blue line when he was met with a punishing hit from the Canadiens' defender, one that put Tavares flat on his back.
Much to his credit Tavares quickly bounced back to his feet, although he would leave the ice a moment later, but by that point Maple Leafs forward Max Domi had already seen enough of Guhle running roughshod over his team.
Domi quickly challenged Guhle after the hit on Tavares and the two men would square off near center ice for what turned in to a pretty good exchange.
Guhle seemed to be frustrated by the helmet of Domi, which never left his head, while Domi used his helmet to tuck his head defensively while landing the better of the shots. Domi connected several times with Guhle and it would eventually lead to the fight turning into more of a wrestling match, with the two men eventually falling to the ice.
Here's a look at the entire sequence including the hit on Tavares and the scrap between Domi and Guhle.
