Matthew Knies added to the Maple Leafs’ injured reserve to sign Alex Nylander!
Toronto now has seven forwards currently unavailable due to injury…
Earlier on Friday, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube announced that forward Matthew Knies will be out of the lineup for Sunday’s game against Utah. While the young player is “improving” as he recovers from an upper-body injury, the Maple Leafs have just placed him on injured reserve.
As Chris Johnston explains, with Knies added to IR by the Leafs, it is bringing their list of forwards currently unavailable due to injury up to seven.
The Maple Leafs were then able to sign Alex Nylander to a one-year deal worth a prorated $775,000.
“He’d previously been with the Marlies on an AHL contract and will get the chance to play with his brother William.”
Knies was injured during the second period of Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Vegas when he was checked by Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud.
As for Alex Nylander coming in, he had previously mentioned how excited he would be to get to play with his older brother William. Last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets after the trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Alex Nylander collected 11 goals and four assists in 23 games.
Let’s see what he can do in Toronto while the infirmary is filling up…
