On Friday night, Matthew Tkachuk plans on getting together with some old Calgary Flames teammates. Because on Saturday, it’s game time.
Tkachuk and his Florida Panthers are facing the Flames on Saturday and it will be the first the forward plays against his former team.
When asked about the point comparison between him and the players, Jonathan Huberdeau and defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, he was traded against, Tkachuk admitted per Sportsnet that’s ”the last thing he cares about.”
“I’ve got enough on my plate down here. I do not care at all about anybody’s personal stuff. I have completely moved on from that.
“I mean, maybe my younger-self would worry a little about that and try to get myself going, but that is the least of my concerns right now. My mindset is a lot different from that.”
Once again, Tkachuk had to sound off on why he wanted out of Calgary, which led to questions about his desire to win a Stanley and how the Flames have the same target in mind. But, there again, Tkachuk doesn’t care because he doesn’t watch the Flames.
“I haven’t watched a lot of Calgary or paid too much attention. The games are on much later out there and I go to bed early and don’t have a chance to watch them, let alone pay attention to them.”
He is however looking forward for Saturday’s match up as for he, Huberdeau and Weegar, this game might mean more than others on the calendar.
We’ll find out on Saturday if Tkachuk should have paid more attention to the Flames…
