The Minnesota Wild have received some rather bad news in the very early stages of the preseason.

According to an official announcement from the Wild's department of public relations, 23 year old forward Matt Boldy has been injured and will be out for some time. The Wild did not provide any details regarding the specific nature of the injury, but did reveal that it is lower-body in nature.

The timeline for Boldy is week to week according to the official update.

This is a huge loss for the Wild as Boldy has established himself as an integral part of the team's offense since being drafted in the first round (12th overall) of the 2019 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Wild.

That has been especially true over the course of the last two seasons, two seasons in which Boldy has averaged 30 goals a season. Last season he appeared in 75 regular season games and recorded 29 goals and 40 assists for a total of 69 points.

Boldy's solid play for the Wild earned him a big 7 year contract that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $7 million per season, and Boldy was set to begin just the second year of that deal at the start of this campaign.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.
