Mathieu Olivier vs Dylan McIlrath in one of the best fights of the season!
An all out war between two of the toughest men in the NHL produces one of the best fights of the season!
This was a good old fashioned barn burner.
Things got pretty rough between the Washington Capitals and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, with the Blue Jackets taking a 7-0 victory in what was a rough, nasty and physical game through all 3 periods.
The Capitals were clearly not happy with the result and, with the two teams facing each other again on Sunday, the Capitals sent a message even before the game had started when they inserted veteran National Hockey League enforcer Dylan McIlrath into the lineup. It was clear that McIlrath had been added to the lineup to police the behavior from Saturday's game, and it wouldn't be long before McIlrath's talents were put to good use on Sunday.
The Columbus Blue Jackets currently have the man that many consider to be the NHL's heavyweight champion on their roster in Mathieu Olivier, and on Sunday the two powerhouses would collide when McIlrath and Olivier went toe to toe for what felt like over a minute of back and forth action.
It was without a doubt one of the best fights of the season with both men refusing to back down, even after they had taken some pretty heavy shots from their opponent.
Olivier could be seen favoring his hand after this one, but we will have to wait to see if it was just merely some normal soreness or a sign of something more serious.
