Massive four-player trade scenario involving Patrik Laine and Leafs lands in rumour mill
Do you pull the trigger on this trade proposal?
Ever since it was announced that Patrik Laine has been officially cleared to return from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, trade rumours have intensified to get him moved by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Interested teams are now able to directly speak with the Finnish forward before a deal can be made.
Several contenders have been mentioned as possible landing spot for the former second overall pick in 2016, including the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks, but now a trade proposal involving the Maple Leafs has got fans wondering if Toronto could land Laine.
The mock trade that has been put together has been suggested by Maple Leafs Daily and would bring Laine to Toronto in exchange for Nick Robertson along with David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok, and a first round pick in 2026.
Laine is working with the Blue Jackets since he has a 10-team no-trade list on the two years he has left on his contract with an $8.7-million cap hit, and could be interested in landing with a top contender like the Maple Leafs.
As for the Canadian team, they have been dealing with the task of possibly moving Robertson, who has voiced his desire to be given a chance elsewhere in the NHL. It has been reported in the past that the Blue Jackets and new general manager Don Waddell are very interested in Robertson, who could get a chance on the first two lines in Columbus.
It remains to be seen if this trade scenario gets some traction and allows both Laine and Robertson to get a fresh start in Toronto and Columbus respectively.
