Marchand pumps Leafs' tires, says they're “built different than past years”

The Boston Bruins dropped Game 2 of their opening round playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night and now head to Toronto for Games 3 and 4.

This morning, Bruins captain and Leafs' arch-nemesis Brad Marchand was quick to actually praise his opponents. Less than 24 hours after dropping a big game and Marchand is actually pumping his opponents' tires.

"They're playing a really good, playoff-type game right now," he said to reporters earlier this morning. "You knew they would. They're built different than in the past years. They're playing a lot more physical, very committed to forechecking, playing very tight defensively. So, you've got to give them credit. They're one of the top teams for a reason. And then when you add their offensive ability on top of that, they're a tough team to play right now."

"We're seeing it. ... It's a very tight playoff series. We knew it was going to be a battle. They've shown up. They're playing for keeps. It's a good challenge."

Personally, I feel like Marchand is showing a level of maturity that we haven't seen from him in recent years. Or... maybe he's just playing mind games with his opponent?

This just in, Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery has announced that defenseman Andrew Peeke will be out of the team's lineup week to week with an injury suffered in Game 2's loss yesterday evening.

Peeke left Game2 about midway through the 2nd period after blocking a Tyler Bertuzzi shot with his left hand. Montgomery added that Peeke isn’t expected to travel with the Bruins to Toronto for Games 3 and 4.

As a result of Peeke's injury, the Bruins have recalled Mason Lohrei from the AHL's Providence Bruins. But, despite Lohrei's promotion it's actually Parker Wotherspoon who is expected to suit up in Peeke's spot. The 26 year old Wotherspoon played 41 games with the Bruins during the regular season, scoring eight assists. If indeed he slots in for Peeke, he'll play his first career Stanley Cup Playoff game.
