Marc-Andre Fleury reveals what he said to Filip Gustavsson right before his historic goalie goal!

One more reason why we all love Fleury.

On Tuesday night, netminder Filip Gustavsson has the first goalie goal in Minnesota Wild history.

With the Wild leading St. Louis 3-1 late in the third frame and on the man advantage, the Blues pulled their goaltender Jordan Binnington in favour of an extra attacker. When Pavel Buchnevich took a hard slap shot, Gustavsson caught easily and immediately dropped the puck. He had all the time in the world to launch the puck over top of everyone, and get it across the goal line and into the history books.

His teammates quickly jumped into his arms and celebrated the historic goal, while backup goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was smiling from ear to ear with pride and joy for his teammate.

After the game when asked about the timeout that occurred right before the empty net goal by Gustavsson, Fleury told team insider Michael Russo of the Athletic what he told his teammate before the game picked up again. During the Blues’ TV timeout, Flower just told Gustavsson to shoot for empty cage.

“Textbook.”

You gotta love the support from a guy like Fleury, who has yet to record a goal in his illustrious career, but will definitely celebrate his teammate’s accomplishment.

As for Gustavsson, he joked with ESPN’s Emily Kaplan that he “should be on the power play meetings now.”

In addition to the goal, Gustavsson stopped 27 of 28 shots faced in his team’s win and improved his season record to 2-0-1 as his Wild has now six points in the standings.
