Marc-Andre Fleury opens up about future in the NHL

As of now, this is not going to be a farewell tour for Marc-Andre Fleury this season. When asked about his future in the NHL, the Minnesota Wild goalie explained how he would start thinking about what comes next for him in his career once the final game of the calendar is played.

“I just told myself that I would give myself this season, see how it goes, see how I feel physically, mentally, if I can still stop the puck, and just make a decision at the end,” Fleury said Thursday. “I don’t want to think about it too much, like, every game. ‘It’s going good, I’ll play again, it’s going bad, I don’t want to play anymore,’ you know what I mean? There will be ups and downs this season. I just want to get through it and make a decision at the end.”

For Flower, who won three Stanley Cups, the 2020-21 Vezina Trophy, an Olympic gold for Canada at the 2010 Winter Games and is third on the NHL’s all-time wins list, with 544, it will all depend on the 2023-24 season and going through the “ups and downs” of it before making the decision.

The veteran netminder is entering his second full season with the Wild after he was traded to Minnesota during the 2021-22 season from the Chicago Blackhawks. He is also playing the final year of his two-year deal with an AAV of $3.5 million.
Fleury could be chasing a fourth championships after winning three durinf his 13-year stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins before he was the first pick in the Vegas Golden Knights’ expansion draft. He spents four seasons in Sin City where he thought he’d retire only to be moved in a controversial trade.

It will be fun to see what comes next after 2024 for the beloved goalie.
