Maple Leafs make Nick Robertson pay for his comments!
Oh boy… he just made it worse.

Earlier this week, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson admitted how he was not impressed with his boss, general manager Brad Treliving. That’s because the rookie feels he’s being jerked around, getting recalled from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on Tuesday after being sent down just a day earlier in an effort to free up some cap space and avoid losing a player like Pontus Holmberg on waivers.
“I understand it but I’m not going to sit here and say that I’m happy,” Robertson said. “I want to play, but I understand my contract situation. Obviously, if it wasn’t the way it was maybe it would be a different situation but it is what it is.
“Every year I’m learning something new with the cap situation. I think I’m getting more knowledge to become an assistant GM one day,” Robertson joked. “When you think you’re in the clear and then all of a sudden you didn’t know — I have no idea. There’s a bunch of stuff. Obviously, you have to fit in the cap. That’s the main thing. But the roster spot. I’m more knowledgeable on it now than I was before.”
It felt appropriate for Robertson to call out the Maple Leafs like he did, however, the team didn’t seem to appreciate his comments and are sending him quite the message. Since he called out the club for his demotion, Robertson skated as an extra in practice and on Thursday night, against the Flyers in Philadelphia, he was a healthy scratch.
Following his comments and how he acts like he can be a difference maker in Toronto, Robertson has a lot to prove during the stretch of the season…
Will he get the chance to do so and get a spot in the lineup ahead of the postseason?
