It was terrible for the Toronto Maple Leafs when defenseman told them he had suffered a cervical spine injury and would be out indefinitely. While there is a sense that the team wants to wait and see what Timothy Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin can do before going the trade route, though the latter looked pretty bad turning the puck to none other than Sidney Crosby last night…
Jonas Siegel of the Athletic suggested new trade options for GM Kyle Dubas as he believes the Maple Leafs should go after Washington Capitals Dmitry Orlov, Ottawa Senators’ Artem Zub, New York Islanders Scott Mayfield or even Chicago Blackhawks’ Connor Murphy to get that help on the blue line.
There is however a fear that such a trade could cost Dubas a player like Liljegren or Sandin or perhaps forward Nick Robertson in order to get a satisfactory return.
If the play settles in Toronto and Dubas is patient, he could choose instead to wait and see if Muzzin misses the remainder of the season to then use the cap relief to bring in a rental defenseman closer to the deadline.
There might be more trade options out there for Dubas, though several insiders have suggested different targets in the past week.
