Maple Leafs’ Craig Berube shuts down reporter, who gets so much heat from fans!

Only in Toronto you get this kind of a circus.

A lot of head coaches in the National Hockey League would have flipped out, but Toronto Maple Leafs’ Craig Berube kept his cool. On Tuesday, after a second consecutive loss in the preseaon, Berube was asked by one foolish yet courageous reporter if it was time to panic.

I get that the pressure is always immense in Toronto, however, I don’t see how the question coming from the media scrum was justified. Berube however stayed calm, though he barely even allowed her to finish the question and did deliver a smirk before simply shutting down the reporter when he answered:

“No. It’s preseason. It’s preseason, so… We’re looking at preparing for the regular season. It’s the second game. We’re looking at young guys. We’re looking at players. So, you know, that’s what it’s about.”

Fans simply couldn’t believe the reporter would go out there after two preseason contests and put out that question to the new Maple Leafs’ head coach.

Many fans agreed with one post from the account ’World Hockey Report,’ with almost 30,000 followers on X, who commented:

”Whoever asked this question should lose their credentials. Makes absolutely no sense to ask this.”

Berube came in as the new head coach in Toronto after Sheldon Keefe departed following yet another first-round exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024, once again at the hands of the Boston Bruins.

When it comes to Berube, he has all season long to push his players and pass the ultimate test: to get more playoff success and perhaps get Toronto past the second round in the postseason.

While this is the number one priority for Berube and the Maple Leafs, the interaction with the reporter reminded fans that Toronto media is the #1 circus in the world.
