Maple Leafs announce upcoming goaltending rotation

The Leafs play two games straight starting tomorrow night.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Petr Mrazek didn't have the greatest of debuts for his new squad last week, allowing three goals against the Ottawa Senators before eventually leaving the game with a groin injury.

In his stead, the Leafs have elected to bring up goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the American Hockey League affiliated Toronto Marlies. Of course, he's not the most popular player in Leafs Land, but it's certainly a more viable option than having to essentially hire an emergency goalie, as they did with U of T net minder Alex Bishop.

The Leafs have two games coming up in short order. Tomorrow night, they host the San Jose Sharks and former teammate James Reimer at Scotiabank Arena before immediately packing up and heading to Pittsburgh for a Saturday matchup against the Penguins.

According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Hutchinson will be between the pipes tomorrow night against the Sharks, while Jack Campbell will get the nod on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena.

"We're trying to put Hutchinson in a place to succeed," Keefe said. "And we thought coming off a practice day right into a gameday tomorrow is a good day for him to do that."

Allowing Campbell to start the second of the back to back ensures another day of rest for their starter.

"As we saw when we came out of a game the other night, just managing his workload a little better," Keefe said of Campbell.
