Major shakeup in Carolina with GM Waddell out

The long-time President and GM is interviewing with other NHL teams.

A pair of NHL insiders are breaking Eastern Conference news on the night that the puck drops on the Western Conference Final.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun and Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman are both reporting that long-time Carolina Hurricanes President and GM Don Waddell has been interviewing for a new position with other NHL teams. Waddell's contract with the Hurricanes reportedly expires this offseason and there are reports that he will seek employment on the open market. Friedman particularly cites the Columbus Blue Jackets as a team who has interviewed Waddell for their vacant GM position.

More from LeBrun and Friedman on social media:

Waddell has been with the Hurricanes since 2014 as President and has been President and GM since 2018. He has been fairly aggressive in his pursuit of a Stanley Cup, making several high profile trades and free agent signings over the years.

More to come on this developing story.
