Major announcement for Quebec City from NHL owner Michael Andlauer.
Big news for hockey fans in Quebec City directly from NHL owner Michael Andlauer.
It has been a good 24 hours for fans of hockey in the city of Quebec City, Quebec, with a pair of big announcements regarding hockey in their city from a somewhat unexpected source.
On Sunday, news began to leak out about a forthcoming announcement from Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer regarding the return of the National Hockey League to Quebec City. That news was confirmed on Monday when Andlauer and the Senators announced that they would hold part of their training camp in Quebec City and subsequently would play a pair of exhibition games there as well, just as the reports on Sunday had suggested he would.
Andlauer would go a step further however and it was his comments on what the future could hold that have raised a few eyebrows on Monday morning.
Andlauer has made it clear that he would like to host regular season games for the Senators in Quebec City, arguing that it should be no issue for the NHL given that it is now a league that has started a trend of playing regular season games in venus that would otherwise fall outside the ecosystem of the league itself.
"If we can play in Sweden, we can play in Quebec," said Andlauer on Monday.
It sounds like the two exhibition games that will be held in Quebec City are just the tip of the iceberg as far as Andlauer is concerned and who knows what else the ambitious owner of the Ottawa Senators has in mind for the future of hockey in Quebec City.
"We'll start with the two preseason games and we'll go from there," said Andlauer. "For me, that's the vision."
It has been a very long time since hockey fans in Quebec City have had anything to be excited about, and hopefully this is the start of a trend in the other direction.
