Longtime Rangers' broadcaster Al Trautwig passes away at just 68 years old
RIP. Gone, but not forgotten.
MSG Network has announced that longtime New York Knicks and New York Rangers broadcaster Al Trautwig has passed away at 68 years old.
Trautwig was reportedly undergoing cancer treatment therapy at the time of his passing.
While most sports fans might remember Trautwig best for his work with the NBA, he was a hockey man at heart.
Trautwig's lifelong obsession with sports began as a child, when he landed a gig as a stick boy with the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. He broadcasting career began in the 1980s when he began hosting NHL coverage for the USA Network. He would become a regular radio and television voice for the Rangers through the 80s and 90s and even hosting SportsNite for ABC Sports in the late 80s.
Named the 2000 New York Sportscaster of the Year, Trautwig has won several Emmy Awards for his work with the Rangers, Knicks and New York Yankees.
RIP to a New York sports legend. Gone, but never forgotten.
