Linus Ullmark injured on Sunday night.
The Ottawa Senators have lost goaltender Linus Ullmark to an injury on Sunday night.
This may be a huge loss for the Ottawa Senators if it proves to be anything even remotely serious.
The Senators have officially announced that star goaltender Linus Ullmark will not return to tonight's game against the Edmonton Oilers after he suffered an upper-body injury during the course of the game. At this time it is very difficult to gauge how exactly Ullmark was injured as there was no obvious moment during the game in which he appeared to get hurt.
Some have speculated that Ullmark was wincing in pain after a hard shot from Oilers captain and star forward Connor McDavid, but it doesn't look like much based on the video replay.
The Sens have however released an official announcement which leaves no doubt about the fact that Ullmark is indeed injured. Ullmark allowed just a single goal before being pulled from the game, stopping 6 of the 7 shots that came his way prior to leaving with the injury.
Ullmark has been a rock for the Senators this season, recording a 2.37 goals against average and a .916 save percentage over 22 appearances thus far.
Stepping in for Ullmark is rookie goaltender Leevi Merilainen which will be a tall order for the young goaltender who also played last night in a win over the Vancouver Canucks. That makes it back to back games for Merilainen so we will have to wait and see how he holds up after being thrust into a tough situation.
