Line brawl breaks out before the game even starts!

Total mayhem.

Jonathan Larivee

There was some good old time hockey over the weekend, the kind of wild stuff that is sure to please old school hockey fans. I haven't seen something like this in quite some time but it seems clear that these two squads aren't big fans of one another.

On Saturday night in the American Hockey League, the San Jose Barracuda and the Tucson Roadrunners clashed, and I mean that quite literally. The two teams engaged in what can only be described as an all out line brawl prior to the opening faceoff, with nearly every player on the ice pairing off with a dance partner and throwing down.

Unfortunately for the AHL officials on the ice it was simply impossible to maintain control of the situation given that there were a total of 10 players involved in the melee, but thankfully they eventually got things sorted out in the end.

Unfortunately for both teams that meant that they would be down a few men for the game, with an unbelievable 8 game misconducts going out before the game even really got under way.

It was like they were having a yard sale on knuckle sandwhiches.

Here is a great overheard angle from the opening faceoff:

Here's a second angle from further out, one that lets you see all of the action happening on the ice.
