Life-altering news for Hyman amidst what McDavid calls “big burden”
Connor McDavid opened up on his teammate:
While hosting his annual golf tournament earlier this week, Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman announced that he was expecting another baby boy with his wife Alannah. This is the couple’s third child. Hyman also revealed that the boy’s birth date is projected to be in September, less than two months from now.
“I have two boys, I have a third boy in September,” Hyman announced during the interview. “We’re growing.”
The great news was announced to all attendees, including Hyman’s brother Spencer, during the fifth edition of the charity golf event, which supports various children’s charities, including Stollery Children’s Hospital, Sick Kids Hospital and UJA.
When asked about his teammate’s devotion and support to the Jewish community in light of the Israel-Hamas war. McDavid praised Hyman’s role in the Jewish hockey community while balancing his career and family responsibilities.
“He’s a great hockey player, first and foremost,” McDavid said. “Being Jewish, he bears a big burden and is the face of that community in hockey. He does an unbelievable job representing himself, his family, and the community.”
“Juggling that with two kids at home and everything else, and still having the career he’s had here, you can’t say enough good things about him,” McDavid added.
The Oilers’ captain made the comments before Hyman broke the news of his wife’s third pregnancy. The Hymans currently have two boys, four-year-old Theo, born in 2020, and one-year-old Bennett, born in 2022.
The 50-goal scorer will have little time to rest between the family’s new addition and the start of the 2024-25 season, but we are extremely happy for the Hymans.
