Currently in the middle of a sticky salary cap situation that has yet to be fully resolved, the Edmonton Oilers were able to shed some salary from their payroll by trading defenseman Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks.

The deal was completed late last night, sending Ceci to San Jose along with a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to in exchange for defenseman Ty Emberson. It brings an end to Ceci's tenure with the Oilers that culminated this spring with a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, a thrilling series that ultimately fell one victory short of the city's first championship since 1990.

And Oilers sniper Leon Draisaitl couldn't let his teammate leave without posting a special goodbye message for him on his social media account that poked fun at him in a good natured way:

The now-former Oilers defenseman has one year remaining on his current contract, and has scored 48 goals and 163 assists in 786 career NHL games that have included stops with the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins.
