Leon Draisaitl goes on record with his pick for the NHL's all-time greatest player
Uh... this guy ever hear of Wayne Gretzky?
Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl planted his flag in the ground, so to speak, today.
When asked by reporters who he thinks is the NHL's G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) and he wasted no time putting his good friend Connor McDavid's name forward.
"Connor McDavid is the greatest player to ever play in my books. He single-handedly turned our franchise around, pretty much. I just love sharing the ice with him and he's a really, really special person."
- Leon Draisaitl
Look... I get why Draisaitl is saying this. He's McDavid's teammate and friend. I'd say the same thing if McDavid were my captain. But objectively McDavid is not the NHL's GOAT.
When it comes to the question of who's the NHL's GOAT, any answer other than 'The Great One' deserves ridicule. Wayne Gretzky is inarguably the greatest player in NHL history and he has over a dozen individual records to prove it. I'll listen to arguments that Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe or Mario Lemieux should be in consideration, but in our hearts as hockey fans we all know who the real GOAT is. It's Wayne and, frankly, it's not even close.
