Legal trouble for Jaromir Jagr that could lead to him losing team in Czechia!
This is getting serious. Read all of the details on the story down below:
This past September, Jaromir Jagr entered his 37th and final professional season with his hometown Kladno Knights at the age of 52. Fans were devastated to find out that the living legend would soon be hanging up the skates, but as owner of the Knights, Jagr knows how valuable his presence is to the team not just on the ice, but for marketing purposes as well.
And he also now needs to focus on legal issues with his team as it has been reported that he has a battle on his hands as the City of Kladno has terminated his lease for his team’s home arena.
The city claims that Jagr skipped out on a recent six-month payment for the lease of the arena, and later states Jagr asked for more time. He however didn’t respond to calls to work something out, which has led to the lease getting terminated.
“The ongoing season is not in any way threatened,” city spokesman Vít Heral told Sport.cz
Though as of now, the Kladno Knights may be homeless soon.
Jagr has until the end of the current campaign to renegotiate the lease for his team. Milan Volf, the mayor of Kladno who once played for the team, said every cent that is made at the arena goes to Jagr and the Kladno Knights. He is confused on what’s happening with the lease.
“So we have to wonder why Jaromir Jagr is not able to honour his year-long contract and pay two million crowns ($86,000 USD) compared to the roughly 40 million crowns ($1.7 million USD) the contract brought him.”
He also added this, which appeared to hint at an ongoing feud with the former NHL All-Star forward: “It’s time for him to no longer be in charge of ice hockey in Kladno.”
When asked to respond to the reports, Jaromir Jagr nor anyone with the Kladno Knights provided answers on the issue. The terminated lease would have kept the team in its current arena until 2032 after it was initially signed way back in 2013.
