The Toronto Maple Leafs took care of a little business on Saturday.

According to an official announcement from the Leafs organization, the team has signed former Nashville Predators draft pick Teemu Kivihalme to a two year contract. The deal is a two way contract and it will see Kivihalme earn an average annual value of $725,000 at the National Hockey League level, although it must be said that Kivihalme has yet to play a single game at the NHL level is his young career.

Kivihalme, a defenseman, was selected in the 5th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators and embarked on a collegiate hockey career with Colorado College shortly after that. Kivihalme would play for Colorado College for 3 years before eventually heading overseas to play in the Swedish Elite League, where he played in a pair of seasons there with Karpat. Kivihalme's performance in that league drew the attention of a number of NHL teams which resulted in him returning to North America where he played in the American Hockey League last season for the Toronto Marlies after signing his entry level contract with the Maple Leafs.

In his most recent season the 23 year old defenseman appeared in 55 AHL games, recording 4 goals and 14 assists and posting a plus minus rating of -1 over that stretch of play.
