Leafs D Mark Giordano on the verge of NHL history!
The veteran defenseman is about to make it happen.

The Toronto Maple Leafs got the veteran blue line help that they needed at last year's NHL Trade Deadline, bringing aboard former Calgary Flames and Seattle Kraken captain Mark Giordano. A Toronto native, he was certainly thrilled to be suiting up for his hometown team at the time of his acquisition.
And he made the call to stick around for another two seasons, having agreed to a contract extension that saw him take a considerable hometown discount - a deal that pays him an AAV of $800K over the next two years, a far cry from the $5.4 million he made last year.
And he's been as steady a blue line presence as the Leafs could have asked for this season, providing invaluable veteran leadership. He's also on the verge of setting NHL history. As of yesterday afternoon, he was only eight shot blocks away from setting the modern record.
He did happen to block one shot from the Chicago Blackhawks during last night's 5-2 victory, meaning that he's now seven away from the record.
He'll have a chance to add to that stat line when he and the Leafs host the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto tomorrow night.
