Latest video of Mark Stone worries fans ahead of Game 1

The round 2 series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Golden Knights gets underway later tonight in Vegas, and while local fans are excited, they are also dealing with anxiety over the status of captain Mark Stone.

On Tuesday, footage from Vince Sapienza of FOX5 News emerged of Stone leaving practice earlier in some discomfort. Stone was hunched over with his stick across his thighs towards the Golden Knights’ bench, and then slowly made his way to the dressing room in clear discomfort.

He then spoke with a trainer, but nothing was clear on what was happening. After practice, Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about his captain’s availability for game one Wednesday. “Assume everything is good, haven’t heard any differently,” he stated.

Stone has been struggling in the past seasons and has undergone multiple surgeries on his back. In 2021-22, Stone missed 40 games due to a back injury that required surgery in May.

This year, Stone was sidelined from Jan. 12 through the remainder of the regular season as he underwent another back surgery. It was stunning to see him return in time for the postseason.

Maybe, it was too soon for the captain and his ailing back?

After putting up 17 goals and 38 points in 43 games in 2022-23, Stone has made his presence felt in these playoffs, collecting three goals and eight points in five games.

This is a developing story as Game 1 of this series takes place later tonight.

UPDATE: Head coach Cassidy did confirm that Stone, along with Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore were in for tonight's Game 1.
