Kyle Dubas signs an old friend from the Maple Leafs

As if signing forward Vinnie Hinostroza wasn't enough for Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operation Kyle Dubas today, he's gone out and added another player in as many hours.

The Penguins announced that Andreas Johnsson has agreed to a one year contract with an AAV of $800,000. 

Having originally been drafted by the Maple Leafs in 2013, Johnsson would begin his professional hockey career in his native Sweden by playing several seasons for Frölunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League. After two seasons with Toronto's AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies, he'd join the team on the tail end of the 2017-18 season, and also made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut that year, scoring a goal with an assist in six games. 

He'd rack up 20 goals and 19 assists for the Leafs the following season in 73 games played, and would be signed by Dubas to a  four-year, $13.6 million contract extension with an AAV of of $3.4 million. 

However, he'd be traded to the New Jersey Devils for Joey Anderson in October of 2020. He'd remain within the Devils organization before being dealt to the San Jose Sharks last season in the trade that brought Timo Meier back East.

In 259 career NHL games, he's scored 57 goals with 47 assists.
