It was the end of an era in Los Angeles last night when the Kings traded goalie Jonathan Quick to the Columbus Blue Jackets as part of a deal for defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. The Kings also sent a first-round pick to the Blue Jackets in the trade.
It wasn’t long before fans found ouf how angry Quick was with the move. He was flying flying back with the rest of his now former team to Los Angeles and still had a tough time swallowing the trade.
Reports keep emerging on how poorly the Kings have treated the veteran goalie, who should have ended his career in LA.
The Kings are now hearing from angry fans, pundits and even insiders about trading the legendary goalie to Columbus.
Andy Strickland writes it best: “The issue isn’t the Kings trading Jonathan Quick. LA needed cap space and they need to upgrade their goaltending. But blindsiding him and not giving him any indication that this could possibly happen probably wasn’t right. There’s always a right way to treat people.”
The 37-year-old goalie backstopped the Kings to two Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014. He earned the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP in 2012 and is a two-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy (2014, 2018).
He surely deserved to end his career with dignity and with the only team he had played for.
Now, following the upsetting trade to Columbus, there are new rumblings of another move coming to Quick…
