Unfortunately for Chicago Blackhawks superstar Connor Bedard, he was catching strays on Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC) on Saturday night and doing so through absolutely no fault of his own.

During the pregame broadcast of the upcoming matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens, HNIC host Ron MacLean briefly made mention of golf's famous "Green Jacket" during a panel segment. While it was a throwaway comment from MacLean, it would open the door for former National Hockey League star Kevin Bieksa to share some details about the National Hockey League's own version of the Green Jacket, one that is very different from the one that we see in the sport of golf.

Bieksa would go on to reveal that the NHL's version of the Green Jacket is awarded to the player who has the worst plus minus rating in the NHL, a sign that the player in question will be going golfing due to his poor performance on the ice during the regular season.

"We say the Green Jacket in the NHL is the worse plus minus at the end of the year," revealed Bieksa.

Bieksa would then add that a few young talents were in the mix for the unfortunate award this season.

"So right now there's a little bit of a race going on, couple of young superstars are in that" said Bieksa.

As if he realized what he was doing, Bieksa tried to stop short of naming any of the players in question but he was pressured by his co-hosts into doing just that.

"Well, Bedard," admitted Bieksa reluctantly. "I don't want to but I will say it, but hopefully he doesn't win it."

Bedard boasts an abysmal plus minus rating of -39 on the season and currently leads the league as the player with the worst plus minus rating among all NHL skaters. He is being chased closely by teammate Tyler Bertuzzi at -38 on the season, so we will have to wait and see who has the unfortunate honor of earning the NHL's now infamous Green Jacket.
