It’s been clear that the Vancouver Canucks were going to be sellers ahead of the March 3rd trade deadline, but fans expected players like Elias Pettersson and JT Miller to be untouchables. But apparently, the latter could be on the move.
On Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment just before puck drop between the Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed how teams have shown interest in Miller and the Canucks will look into it.
“There’s been a lot of talk about his situation,” Friedman said. “I don’t know where this is gonna go, and there’s a chance it might not go anywhere, but I do think teams have called the Canucks and just said, ‘if we wanted to do this, what would you think about here?’ So we’ll see where that goes.”
Miller inked a massive new seven-year, $56 million extension with the Canucks back in September. It feels like trading for Miller and his hefty deal would be a major risk for any team to take on, though he would immediately bring in top-six-caliber scoring to any playoff contender.
Since his captain Bo Horvat was traded to the New York Islanders prior to the All-Star break, Miller has taken on more responsibilities, putting up 49 points so far this season.
It feels like everyone, but Pettersson, could be traded out of Vancouver for the right price.
The Canucks will take on calls on Miller, but we will have to wait until the trade deadline to see if they choose to move him. Vancouver sits with a 21-30-4 record and 46 points, in a tie with the Arizona Coyotes for the fifth-worst record in the NHL.
Let’s see who leaves Vancouver before March 3rd and if it includes Miller…
