Jonathan Marchessault's agent leaks his future

He's one of the original misfits, happens to be the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner, and is also slated to become an unrestricted free agent at this season's end. 

Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault has enjoyed the best season of his career as he aims to help Vegas defend their Stanley Cup title. He's already established a new career high in goals scored, and is set for a considerable raise from his cap hit of $5 million. 

His agent Pat Brisson has indicated that there have been conversations between him and Vegas management over a contract extension, but that his client is okay with waiting until the end of the season to get something worked out. 

“He's OK waiting,” Brisson said. "Of course, you would rather have a deal done. Sometimes the reason you don't have a deal done is because you're not there yet. He's been in Vegas ever since its inception seven years ago. He likes it there, been producing, won the Cup last year, won the Conn Smythe.

“He's having a hell of a season this year. His production is not going down.”

Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon was a bit more tight lipped on the issue. 

“At this point in the regular season, we are all working to help our club qualify for the playoffs," McCrimmon said in a statement to the AP. "The status of player contracts is not something we’ll comment on, as we continue to keep our focus on the ice.”

It would be odd to see Marchessault don the jersey of another team, but as Vegas has proven before, they are absolutely ruthless when it comes to player and coaching personnel; nothing is off the table.
