John Tortorella brutally calls out Flyers forward after win.
John Tortorella called out one of his players despite the fact that his team won on Saturday.
The Philadelphia Flyers may have picked up a big win on Saturday afternoon but if you thought that would be enough to satisfy head coach John Tortorella, guess again.
Following the conclusion of the game Tortorella spoke to reporters regarding a number of his players and was critical regrading some aspects of their game. One that stood out however was Flyers centerman Morgan Frost, a player that has been the subject of trade rumors very recently, with Tortorella being critical regarding the level of competitiveness that Frost brings to the table.
"I just want him to compete," said a frustrated Torotella. "The biggest thing for me with [Frost] is I just want him to compete."
Calling out a player for a lack of competitive drive is certainly less than ideal if your team is indeed trying to make a trade and extract as much value as possible in exchange for the player. Tortorella however has always been a head coach that speaks his mind and he continued with his comments regarding Frost's perceived lack of competitiveness.
"I think if he competes his offense will flourish," said Tortorella. "I just don't think there's enough competitiveness in him, and that's what I want out of him. I think other things will fall in place for him."
Frost has appeared in the lineup in just 4 of the Flyers last 6 games and it is in part those decisions from Tortorella that have fueled the trade speculation around Frost. In fact just recently National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman suggested that the Flyers opponents on Saturday may be an ideal destination for the Flyers centerman.
From Friedman:
He’s not a complainer, prefers to keep any displeasure behind closed doors, but players want to play. Obviously, any dance needs partners who deal, but the Blackhawks, in dire need of centres, are one team that makes sense for him.
Either way it will be interesting to see where things go from here with a clear desire on the part of John Tortorella to motivate Morgan Frost into taking a step forward in his NHL career.
