There's a new Swede in town for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as defenseman John Klingberg has agreed to join the team on a one-year contract worth $4.15 million.
Klingberg is the newest face in town courtesy of new Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, who has also signed Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi to new contracts. He may have his work cut out for him in terms of getting his team salary cap compliant.
"One of the things that I look at is trying to bring a little bit more offense from the blue line,"Treliving said. "John will be one of the first ones to tell you it didn’t go exactly the way he wanted to go last year, but he is a really good player in this league."
"He can move the puck. He jumps up in the play. His ability in the offensive zone, particularly the power play… He is an elite offensive player in zone. To me, he is going to bring us some more puck movement and hopefully some more production from the blue line."
And according to Klingberg, Treliving indicated to him that he's not finished making moves.
